Shop Update: Gisli the Outlaw and the Legends and Myths of Hawaii

“Gísla saga Súrssonar”, or the saga of Gísli Súrsson,  tells the story of Gísli, a tragic hero. Gisli is outlawed and forced to stay on the run for thirteen years. The events depicted in the saga take place between 860 and 980 CE. The story only existed in oral tradition until it was recorded sometime in the 13th century.

From a completely different time and culture, compiled and retold by David Kalākaua, a king of the Hawaiian islands in the 19th century, “The Legends and Myths of Hawaii” is not all mythology. It is rich in historical narrative. King Kalakaua relates the stories of great events with such detail that one can readily imagine he was an eyewitness. This is a wonderful book to add to your collection.

We hope you enjoy the stories!
